Carolina Park Sells For $50.1 Million

CDM of Charleston, LLC and it's partner, Grove Properties bought the Carolina Park development in Mt. Pleasant for $50.1 million at a Charleston County foreclosure auction on July 13, 2010.

CDM was the original owner of the 1200 acre development.

2009 State Report Card Scores Just Released

The 2009 State Report Cards were released today with a number of schools showing improved scores over 2008.However, according to a story in the Post and Courier newspaper "the improvement primarily stems from changes to the state's accountability test and scoring system, and it will take another year before test scores can be compared exactly from one year to the next. State education leaders cautioned against making year-to-year comparisons, and they said elementary and middle schools didn't have as high a bar to cross this year to receive better ratings."

Even though apparently the 2009 scores have been "watered down" to a degree, they should be helpful in comparing the relative performance of the different schools to each other. Even though the scores from Charleston County remain poor as a whole, the Mt. Pleasant scores are impressive, with every school obtaining an "excellent" grade with the exception of one, Laing Middle School which received a grade of "good":

Recent Home Sale In Carolina Park

On March 16, 2010, the home at 1475 Crane Creek Drive was sold for $385,000 after being listed for $399,000. The home was a two story 3 bedroom 2 1/2 bath home built by Cline Homes. It was 2609 sqft.

Update Status On Carolina Park

According to an article in the Post and Courier on March 11, 2010, a judge has ruled that the foreclosure of about 1200 acres in Carolina Park can proceed no sooner than May 18, 2010.One of the investors in the development, CDM of Charleston LLC has been fighting the lawsuit brought last year by Palmetto Debt Holdings, which controls the $25 million first mortgage on the property.
In August of 2009, Palmetto Debt Holdings bought the note from the National Bank of south Carolina for an undisclosed amount. It than filed a lawsuit to take over ownership of the land which has been appraised at $150 million.

Roper Hospital Recognized Among Top 100 Healthcare Systems

Modern Healthcare magazine announced in February of 2010 that Roper St. Francis Healthcare is among the Top 100 integrated Health networks in the US. It was ranked number 46 for the second straight year. It is among the 4 in South Carolina to be in the top 100.
